What is Early Intervention?

Bear Early On is Michigan's system of service delivery and support for young children and their families. The program is a collaborative effort that works with parents, schools, the Community Mental Health System Authority, Oakland County Public Heath, Oakland Schools, doctors, hospitals, and foster care agencies as needed and/or necessary.

Early Intervention is the public school's classroom component of this Early On program. Early Intervention serves children from birth to age three who have an established medical condition or 1 or more developmental delays. These delays may be in any of the following areas:

  • speech and language
  • fine or gross motor skills
  • cognition
  • social/emotional skills

Early Intervention, which is designed to be family focused and uses a team approach, is a state mandated program and the services are free. It is part of Lamphere Schools and follows the school calendar. We service all of Madison Heights. The program consists of an early childhood team, including a special education teacher, a speech and language therapist, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a social worker, and a school psychologist.
